You should really try to floss more....

I had to go to the dentist this morning at 8:30 and then straight to work. Blah! That's never fun but it was even worse after five days off!

Did I mention I hate going to the dentist? I never had a problem with going until I moved to Anchorage with Matt. I had two check-ups a year and never had any problems. When Matt and I got married, we would have had to pay for dental insurance through the Air Force and money was extremely tight at the time. (We should have done it anyway.) So I didn't go to the dentist once in 4 years!

A Scary Sight for Me!!!

My first dental appointment was last June and it was one of the worst experiences of my life! They picked my gums apart! I had never seen so much blood on the bib (or whatever its called that they cover you up with) before. And that was also when I found out I had my first cavity.

After the painful check-up I should have known better than to go back there for a filling. But the dentist was a friend of my mother-in-law so I thought I would give him another try. BIG mistake! I have had so many problems with that filling. I have been back four times to have them fix it and I still can't chew with that tooth!

Thankfully, everything was good today. However, while the dental hygienist was cleaning my teeth, she said, "You should really start flossing." Ugh! I have been flossing my teeth every day.... (fine! At least three times a week!) since I had my gums ripped out. Apparently I'm not doing it right! I need to figure that one out because I don't want to spend all that time sitting on my bathroom counter staring at my teeth for nothing!

I'm seeing more and more 'sedated' dental specialists and hearing of more and more dr's giving meds to patients before they go to the dentist to relax them.

I hate going to the dentist too. Once I started having kids I seemed to get a cavity every time I went in for x-rays, even though I brushed every day and had my 6 month cleanings without missing any. It was so frustrating! Then I started to floss my teeth every single day and brush after breakfast in addition to at night. I haven't had a cavity since (in 3 years). But I admit, it takes me like 10 minutes to brush and floss my teeth at night. And I still hate going to the dentist.

I feel your pain!

I have not been to the dentist in about two years now, also because of insurance. My husband should be getting new insurance in the next month...hopefully it'll be reasonable for dental!

Find a new dentist. There is no need to ever feel such anxiety in going to the dentist. When I was a teen ager, my family went to a dentist whose oral hygentist was pure evil. She shredded our gums. After the 4th or 5th time the witch told my mom that she should floss better because her gums were bleeding after the cleaning, my mom asked her if anyone got through one of her cleanings without their gums bleeding. Not really, she replied.

My current dentist has hygentists that are so gentle that I wonder if they have cleaned my teeth until I run my tongue over them. He has a great sense of humor, and has never lectured me on not cleaning under my bridge well enough.

There are good dentists out there, and you have not found one.

Oh man - I totally understand what you mean. I haven't been to the dentist since I moved to Washington (I haven't found one... I haven't looked!) and then I was pregnant and didn't WANT to go because I'm sure I have a cavity or something and wouldn't be able to have novocain ... and now I'm breastfeeding - my excuses could go till the end of time... even after my teeth fall out I'm sure. Siigh I should go to the dentist. hehe Happy New Year! Love your blog!

Ugh - not a big fan of the dentist here either. I got 6 cavities when I was pregnant with my first and 3 more with my second! NOT fun.

Thanks for stopping by today.

I'm with you. I don't like the dentist and detest flossing, it's a necessary evil. I'm dreading my next visit...it's been a while.
