A Big Brother Present for Aiden

After today, we have five weeks and five days (at the most) until Holden joins our family! And I've been thinking a lot about the adjustments Aiden is going to have to make. I don't want him to feel left out at the hospital where everyone will make a big fuss over the new baby. So I decided that I would buy him a big brother present to distract him the first couple of days (for a few hours anyway?) while the new baby excitement is at its peak. I'm going to say that the present is from Holden thanking him for being such a great big brother.

Anyway. I've been thinking a lot about what I could get him. Recently, he's been "borrowing" my camera a lot. He's taken over a hundred photos! So I finally decided to get him one of those cameras made for kids. I read the reviews for the Fisher Price and VTech cameras and finally decided to get him the VTech Kiddiezoom Digital camera.

Besides taking pictures, you can make videos, play games, and do a little photo editing. The only downside I read about in the review was about the quality of the pictures. Somehow, I don't think that's going to bother Aiden.

Here are a few of the photos he's taken with my camera:

Last night, Aiden went to my mother in law's house for a couple of hours and I decided to go to Target and see if I could find the camera. I had looked online and saw that the camera sold for around $50 in most stores. After looking through the toys, I found the camera and decided to go ahead and get it because who knows when I will be able to go shopping by myself again. I didn't check the price but I already had an idea of what it was going to cost. I was shocked when I went to check out and the camera rang up for $14.98! What a deal!

Finally! A FUN weekend!

The last few weekends have been consumed by going through all of the stuff we have collected over the last three years since moving to TN from AK and getting everything situated for the movers. I took 17 bags of clothes, toys, etc. to the salvation army. Unbelievable! I didn't know we had some of that stuff! It took me a long time to get much accomplished 1) Since I'm this far in my pregnancy I need more breaks than I normally would and 2) Aiden insisted that we need to keep everything that I tried to get rid of. I don't know how many times I had to pick up and reload the giveaway bags.
The movers were supposed to pack and load all of our stuff in one day, but they got to our house so late in the day that they spent most of the following day there as well. Glad to be finished with that stressful task! It's Matt's job now to meet them and get everything semi-situated in our new apartment before Aiden and I move up there.

This weekend, I decided to do something fun with Aiden to make up for all of those other boring weekends we've been having lately. First, I took him to feed the ducks and then we went to get ice cream.

When we got back to my parents' house (we're staying with them until we officially move on August 15) and saw that the sprinkler was on. This was Aiden's first time playing in the sprinkler this summer (and I doubt he remembers it from last year) and he Loved it! He rode his big wheel through the sprinkler countless times. Then I put his swim trunks on and he stood in front of it and just let it spray him. He had so much fun!

I've been wanting to take Aiden to a movie since we won't be able to go to the theater for awhile after Holden is born. And since Sunday was a rainy day, I decided that that would be the best time to go. I took him to see Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 3-D. He was not that impressed! His attention span just isn't that long yet especially with all of the previews before the movie actually starts.
He spent most of his time, hanging onto my leg and checking out the people behind us wearing "their big sunglasses inside."
He really didn't want to wear his 3D glasses (and I had to beg him to take this picture!) but once he saw what they did "Mommy! That snowflake is coming right to me!" he wore them for most of the movie. And even though he was was saying, "Let's go home now" before the movie was halfway finished, he told everyone that he saw that he got to go see Dawn of the Dinosaurs. So, I guess he had a good time!

32 Weeks Update

I have the date of my c-section scheduled now, September 9! I'm not that crazy about the date 9-9-09 (I really wanted to have him on the 8th), but when the military doctors tell you when to come in, you don't question it. Apparently, they only do scheduled c-sections one day a week. So, the 9th it is. I cannot believe that it only 7 weeks from tomorrow!

I got some maternity photos made even though I wasn't that into it. I have gained SO much weight! But I figured I would enjoy looking at these pictures when I'm back to pre-pregnancy size and my dad has been looking forward to taking them. So, here are a couple. I will post some more after I get them back. I'm going to have more taken with Matt when he gets home.

I told Matt that I wouldn't look so big if my bottom didn't stick out as far as my stomach! LOL I hate that I gain weight there!

I had my 32 week appointment today. And I have only gained 1 pound in the last month. When I went to my 6 month check up and found that I had already gained 30 pounds, I freaked out! But I haven't been dieting, I've just been making better choices on what I eat. And my blood pressure is looking really good. I already had pre-eclampsia at this point with Aiden so I'm really happy. It was a good appointment.

Serenity's 3rd Birthday Bash!

Kati over at Country Girl, City Life is hosting a week long celebration for her little girl's 3rd Birthday. There's going to be reviews, giveaways, games, and party favors so come check it out!

Mmmm... Cookies!

I just won a fabulous prize from Jessica over at Mommy to a Three Yr Old Drama Queen. Check out her blog; she always has great reviews and giveaways not to mention the cute and funny posts about her little girl! Anyway, I won an assorted box of cookies from Gimme Jimmy's Cookies. I was so excited when I found out that I had won! I received my box of cookies in mail right after I came home from my 30 week check-up where my doctor told me that I really shouldn't gain any more weight....

They came in a cute box which I am going to reuse to store some of Aiden's art supplies.

There were five different flavors: Chocolate chunk, Chocolate chip M&M, Oatmeal Raisin, Sugar, and Peanut Butter. And we got six of each!

Normally, I'm not a big peanut butter fan, but those peanut butter cookies were amazing! I couldn't believe how soft they were! No one even got to touch the Oatmeal Raisin cookies because my mom devoured them! LOL And of course, Aiden's favorite are the M&M.

These are really good cookies and they were in perfect condition. Not a single broken cookie in the bunch! Thanks again, Jessica, for giving me the chance to win this wonderful prize!

A Trip to the Fossil Site and Nature Preserve

My grandmother's brother and his wife are visiting from Germany and she is trying to show them some of our local attractions. Today, Aiden and I went along for the ride.

Our first stop was the Fossil site. When I was little, I wanted to be a paleontologist among lots of other things. I used to get a spoon (don't ask me why that was my instrument of choice!) and dig for dinosaur bones in the garden. I did find an arrowhead once! Back in 2000, the fossil site was discovered during some construction and for some reason I never made it there even though it's less 2o minutes from our house... The museum workers have found elephant, rhino, tapir, alligator, red panda, and camel skeletons in the area. Pretty interesting for East Tennessee!

Outside the museum

Alligator and Tapir Skeletons

Aiden and Mandy searching for "fossils"

The Elephant Pit

The Rhino Pit

The Fossil Cleaning Room

Fossil Storage

After the fossil site, we went to one of the local state parks. There are tons of deer (wild and caged), wolves, bobcats, owls, and other animals native to this area. The animal habitats are spread around a lake. It's quite a bit of walking but it's really nice.
I was fascinated by the turtles of all things! I have never seen this many turtles. And they were so active! They were crawling on top of each other and carrying food into the water to eat it. I could have stayed there all day and watched them! LOL
Inside the nature center, there are displays of local animals and for some reason, a dinosaur...

As soon as Aiden saw this dinosaur hanging from the ceiling, he said, "Look, Mommy! It's a Pteranodon!" We have a book called, Beyond the Dinosaurs, Creatures of the Land and Sea by Charlotte Lewis Brown that Aiden really likes. The Pteranodon is one of the creatures in the book. I was so surprised that he remembered the name much less could identify it! Of course, he chose that to be one of the books we read before bed tonight!

Happy Independence Day!

It's the fourth of July and Aiden and I are getting ready to head over to my parent's house for a cook out and then it's off to the fireworks! Matt is currently training at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama and we're really missing him. Aiden and I are really looking forward to July 31st when he gets back home!

We haven't done any art projects in a while so I decided we should do something festive this morning! We made did a firework project which Aiden was thrilled with because it involved glitter!

My plan had been to let Aiden pour the glue on several places on the paper and then we would blow the glow with a straw, but that didn't work so well. So we spread the glue out with the straw instead.

Than Aiden insisted on putting every color of glitter on each firework and he had to ask for more starts because a couple of his fireworks didn't have any.
