Lots of Bloggy Bling!

I love bloggy awards. I think it's awesome that someone takes the time to design each little one. And I proudly display them on my sidebar. However... when it comes to posting them, I'm a terrible procrastinator! I hate having to choose people to pass the awards on to. I love each of the blogs that I follow and I think everyone deserves an award. I got these bloggy awards from Heatherlyn (I'm not going to say how long I've been holding on to these!) and I want to pass them on to all of my followers! Thank you Heatherlyn for the wonderful awards!

Aiden's Baby Thoughts

Lately, Aiden has been rolling up his blanket and pretending that it's a baby. This morning in the car he was holding his blanket and he said, "Shh... Don't cry, baby. Aiden and mommy love you." So cute! I think he's going to be a really good big brother.

This afternoon he was looking at my blog and he saw my ultrasound picture. I asked him what it was and he said, "That the baby!" Then he looked up at me and said, "Mommy, can I get back in your tummy?" He decided against it when I told him that it would be dark and there wouldn't be any toys.

Then tonight, he handed me his blanket and said, "Here, Mommy. Hold my baby." A few minutes later I asked him where his baby was and he said, "My baby in my tummy." I asked him where mommy's baby was and he said, "Mommy's baby already come out. I right here."

(Mostly) Wordless Wednesday

My little peanut at 6 weeks 4 days taken last Friday. Heart rate 108. It was so exciting to see! I showed this picture to Aiden and he said, "That neat, Mommy. I like it."

Feeling Better

I kept Aiden home from preschool again today, and I think he's feeling a lot better now. He was finally able to eat today without immediately getting sick. My poor baby. I absolutely hate when he feels bad and there's nothing I can do to make him feel better.

While I was cleaning the kitchen this evening, he asked if he could paint. This is the first interest he's shown in any activity other than laying on the couch and watching a movie since our trip to the ER last Friday. And he was so excited about the picture that he painted. He said, "Mommy! I paint a sea turtle! Take picture!"

Aiden's "Sea Turtle"

Then he decided to make some handprints for me. He knows that I love handprint art! LOL We haven't done any in a while, but I'm sure I will find something for handprint craft for a Valentine's Day activity.

I tried to push up his sleeves numerous times because I didn't want him to get paint on his shirt, but for some reason having his sleeves pushed up really bothers him. He cries and pulls at them and ends up getting them even messier. I showed him the paint on his shirt and he said, "It OK, Mommy. You wash it." LOL This made me think of you, Jenny!

"Mommy, cut my hair!"

Aiden was sitting beside me on the floor this morning watching Little Einsteins while I was getting ready for school. All of a sudden, he rubbed his head and said, "Mommy, cut my hair!" Matt and I exchanged a look. Where did this come from? This is the little boy who goes into hysterics every time I mention getting a trim. I said, "Who told you to tell Mommy that?" Without thinking about it, he answered, "Mamaw." (Matt's mom) Matt laughed and said, "She's caught!" I guess Aiden thought that he was going to get Mamaw in trouble because he started saying, "No! Aiden say that!"

OK, I admit Aiden is in a severe need of a trim.

But I really don't like having to pay $15 to get his hair cut. And the last time Matt attempted to cut his hair, it turned out slightly disasterous! No more of that!

After Matt gave him that horrible haircut, Aiden kept saying, "Aiden look good now!" It made me cry! So, I guess I'll be shelling out 15 dollars for a hair cut this weekend!

Our Snowman Attempt!

I kept Aiden home from preschool on Thursday because he had a bad cough. He was feeling better later in the afternoon and it was close to 50 degrees outside so I took him out to play in the melting snow. Our backyard is completely shaded so we had some time before it all melted.

He really wanted to build a snowman, but this was the best I could do with dry snow!

He laughed and said, "That a snowman, Mommy?"

Then he asked if he could step on it...

He really enjoyed that. So I spent the rest of our time outside making piles of snow for him to step on. I think it's so funny how all children love to knock things over!

Gotta Love the City School System

We got a lot of snow for our area this week ~ 3 inches! I got up early Tuesday morning to get ready for work and school. Then I turned on the local news and saw that school had been canceled for the day! And since I work as a graduate assistant, I didn't have to work either. It brought back so many childhood memories of Snow Days!

While the college was closed, the city school only had a 2 hour delay which meant Aiden could go to preschool for 1 hour. What's the point of that?! I decided to keep him home so we could play outside in the snow.

At 10:00 my dad called and asked if there was any way that I could pick my sister, Mandy, up from school because the city school had decided to close as well. After they allowed parents to drop their children off at Educare... How crazy is that?! I think they should have a delay and stick with it or close for the entire day~ not decide to close 30 minutes before the children are supposed to show up! Aiden and I picked Mandy up from school (the roads were perfectly clear by the way!) and ended up having a really fun day.
Kenai enjoying the snowy day

Mandy and Aiden
I was all prepared to help them build a snowman but the snow was dry this time around and wouldn't pack at all! Oh, well!

I'm back!

Wow! It has been a really stressful and exhausting past few days.

First off, I've gone through some major family drama. I've been majorly stressed about this issue but couldn't bring myself to write about it. Things were really rocky for a few days, but I think everything will work itself out now.

Aiden has been really sick. We were actually in the ER until 3:30 this morning. He had a pretty bad cold earlier in the week and it just kept getting progressively worse. I took him to the doctor but we weren't able to see his primary physician. The doctor I saw prescribed him a medication that I questioned him about. I also questioned the pharmacist when picking it up and was assured that it was fine. Before bed, Matt gave Aiden the medicine and he woke up a few hours later with severe vomiting and a really high fever. We rushed him to the ER and were told that the medication that he had been prescribed was too strong for his system. Ugh! He's doing MUCH better today though!

I was just diagnosed with pregnancy-induced anemia today. I haven't been feeling all that great for the past couple of weeks. I kept getting really bad dizzy spells. It got really bad yesterday and I actually fainted. I went to the doctor this morning and was told that I have moderate anemia. Fortunately, this can be treated with iron supplements and I should be as good as new in a couple of months!

So it's not been a fun week, but everything is getting better. I've got a lot of catching up to do with the bloggy world! And I promise, my next post will be much happier!

Random Facts Tag

Heatherlyn from the Colt Family Blog just tagged me. For this tag, I am supposed to list 7 random facts about myself. I had a tag like this a while back, but I'm going to challenge myself to come up with 7 more weird things that you don't know about me! And if you haven't read Heatherlyn's blog, you should definitely check it out!

1. I really do NOT like to sleep. I've never grown out of the "I might miss something if I fall asleep" phase. Even on days when I'm really exhausted because I only slept for 4 hours the night before, I can't make myself go to bed before midnight! Of course, Aiden doesn't like to sleep either!

2. I get bored really easily. I can't stand to stay home all day. I have to get out of the house and do something every day. Aiden is constantly asking me, "What are we going to do today." Because I always have some sort of plan!

3. I am obsessed with Gymboree. I have to buy something for Aiden there almost every time we go to the mall. The clothes for Aiden are really cute, but the girl stuff is like 10 times better. It's going to be really bad if this baby is a girl....

4. I lose my car keys all the time (Heatherlyn had this one on her blog too). Half of the time, I end up emptying my entire tote and still can't find them. Then I walk to my car and realize that I left them in the ignition! In the parking lot with my doors unlocked. I am so lucky my car hasn't been stolen.

5. I LOVE glittery lip gloss. I seriously have 15 tubes of it right now. Do I need all of that? Of course not. But any time I see a lip gloss on sale, I cannot pass it up.

6. I am fascinated by sharks. When I was younger, I used to watch the Discovery Channel's shark week and take notes! I read this article about a place in Belize where you can swim with nurse sharks. I would Love to do that!

7. I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They don't have a store in Anchorage, but people have them shipped up for fundraisers. Matt bought me a box of plain Krispy Kreme doughnuts once and I ate all twelve of them before he got home from work! Needless to say, I don't get them that often!

Now, I have to tag 7 others to list 7 random facts about themselves:

1. Pam at Country Mouse, City Mouse
2. Staci at Playing House
3. Carole at Youngest of 3 Sisters
4. April the Tuperware Diva
5. Jennifer at Braving Boyhood- My Journey on Raising Boys
6. Mary Beth at Boo Bear's Place
7. Kati Sue* at Backwoods Homemaker Barbie

A Beautiful Bloggy Award

I recieved this Beautiful award from Carole over at Youngest of 3 Sisters. Thank you, Carole for this great award!

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

It started snowing last night and has been snowing all day today. We probably have about two inches now! LOL When Aiden got up this morning we looked out the window, and he shrieked, "It's snowing!" We were both really excited about going outside to play in it!

I really wanted to build a snowman with Aiden but I couldn't find my gloves. I tried making it without gloves, but my hands started stinging and Aiden was more interested in chasing the dog. I'm going to search through my ski stuff tonight and find my gloves and as long as the snow doesn't melt tonight we're going to build a snowman tomorrow!

When we came in from outside, I made him some hot chocolate with marshmallows. He had never had the marshmallows before and tried spitting them out. I told him they were like candy. He put one back in his mouth and said, "Oh. Candy. Yum!"
I have no idea how you get your face dirty from drinking hot chocolate. But Adien figured it out! He is such a mess!!!

You should NEVER tell a 2 year old a Secret!

Tomorrow is Matt's birthday and I have this carrot cake recipe that he loves. I've only made it three times because it takes over 3 hours to make! But since it's Matt's favorite cake I decided to make it for him for his birthday. Since I've been having a lot of morning sickness and have been exhausted lately, I knew he wouldn't think about me making the cake this time. I even asked my grandmother (Mammy) if I could make the cake at her house so he would be completely surprised. Then I made the mistake...

Aiden got up too early this morning and he was really cranky. I told him that if he was really good, he could come with me to Mammy's house and we would make Daddy a birthday cake. When Matt got up, he asked Aiden if he would like to go see Mamaw (his mom). Aiden shook his head and said, "No! We go to Mammy house. We make Daddy birthday cake!" Matt looked at me and said, "You're going to make that carrot cake?" What could I do but nod and smile?

So here is the Fabulous Cake: Southern Living's Best Carrot Cake

Getting Started:

The recipe says to drizzle the glaze onto the cake once you remove it from the oven. Well, the first time I made this cake, I didn't really think there was a difference between drizzle and pour... Uh, yeah. There is. We had a slightly soggy, gooey cake that time.

The Cream Cheese Frosting:

Happy Birthday, Matt! I did my best!

I have to say, I've never been a big fan of carrot cake. But this cake is absolutely fabulous! Now, if the Steelers could just hurry up and win their game... I would really like a piece of cake!

Sometimes it's Good to Follow Directions...

Last night, we attempted the Kool-Aid fingerpaint for the second time. I remembered ALL of the ingreedients this time and it turned out quite differently!

Without flour:

With Flour:

This recipe makes a pretty good fingerpaint. It smells really good and has an interesting texture. It's really thick paint.

Well, I spent quite a bit of time fingerpainting, but unfortunately Aiden was too worried about getting his hands dirty! He had to have a paint brush!
Should I touch it?! I think I'll pass...
I really liked this fingerpaint. The recipe makes a TON. But it was really too thick to use with a paint brush. The paint stuck to the bristles so Aiden didn't much care for this project. He much preferred when I didn't follow the directions!
